The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is looking to split up the power utility PG&E into separate companies in order to help secure the safety of the public by promoting safer energy delivery to California customers within PG&E’s service area. Further actions could lead to CPUC forcing the replacement of some PG&E board members and senior management, revising PG&E’s safety goals and safety performance, splitting up the gas, electric distribution and transmission divisions into separate companies.
